…Adding an even more personal touch to bedrooms is Average to Art, which specializes in decorative finishes, murals, painted furniture and custom art.
Owner Alissa Murnane says they just completed a bedroom where grandparents had her paint the Grand Tetons in their grandson's bedroom to make him feel more comfortable because he had lived near them.
One homeowner, who traveled extensively to France and Italy, wanted a faux stone look throughout this house, including the bedroom, Murnane says. Another client who had furniture from the 1960s and '70s had her refinish the pieces with an antique white finish, she says. The pieces went in her bedroom because she wanted a comfortable feel.
In one teen's bedroom, she painted beads in vibrant colors on the wall as part of the room's purple theme, Murnane says. Another client wanted her bedroom to be romantic and to flow so she had a decorative finish called "ragging" to lend a soft, textured feel.
"I have so many clients who tell me they just want to escape and that's what I strive for," Murnane says of clients' requests for their bedroom.
